The Blue Mountains

This weekend I made an overnight trip to The Blue Mountains and the quaint towns of Katoomba and Leura. Stunning natural beauty, spoiled only by the tourists and the Disney-ification of the area with "rides" to facilitate viewing. But when in Rome (and lacking proper hiking gear), you've got to do as the Romans do...

The Blue Mountains get their name from the blue hue they give off when viewed from a distance. The blue is supposed to come from the light reflecting off of a combination of dirt particles in the air and the vapor from the eucalyptus trees that line the Jamison Valley.

A view of the iconic Three Sisters...

Beautiful falls viewed from the "Scenic Cableway"

The scenic cableway...with glass floor for nerve-wracking viewing

The clouds rolled in and we got a good rain shower overnight.
