Stanley has a big market area where you can buy the usual crap, a nice waterside promenade for taking in the sea views and a lot of very Western restaurants. It's pretty touristy and really doesn't feel like Hong Kong at all.

John's visit and a trip to Stanley
My best friend from college, John, arrived from DC last night and today we went to Stanley, a popular seaside town that's about a 45-minute bus ride from Central Hong Kong. We passed a lot of beaches along the way and for a few miles it felt as if we were on a tropical island rather than in China.
